Fifty Years – wow! Time has passed so quickly.

Thanks to God’s mercy and keeping power, we are still doing well. Our family emigrated to the USA in 1977, not long after I had matriculated from Paul Roos, completed military training in the SP Guard, and worked at the Stellenbosch Divisional Council. But I will always be a Stellenboscher, and we visit South Africa when we can. We always enjoy the natural beauty and delicious traditional food … baie lekker!

We were five brothers who attended Paul Roos, and travelled to school from Dalsig on our bicycles. I have many fond memories of school, and my favourite teacher was Mr. Kritzinger, who taught geography. Having experienced schools in Indiana for my sons, I look back with gratitude because Paul Roos provided excellent education and equipped us to succeed anywhere in the world.

Shortly after we arrived in the USA in 1977, I rededicated my life to God and graduated from the Christ Gospel Bible Institute in Indiana in 1980. That year, I also got married and started a landscape business in Louisville, Kentucky  that is still thriving after 42 years.

We are blessed with 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. I am currently still enjoying biking, hiking, golf, and recently started playing tennis again, since I can now run, after two knee replacements! Not yet ready to retire … I still enjoy my occupation!

Bucket list: to visit Israel and Scotland

Life’s motto: God gives the best to those who leave the choice to Him.  Life is nothing but a series of mountain and valley experiences (pain and pleasure). I have had my share of those, but would trade them for nothing, because there are valuable life’s lessons to learn in whatever situation we find ourselves in. Only those of eternal value will go with me.
